“Criminal Regimes Compared “

by Paul von Hartmann

Compared to the current regime, Nixon was an insecure geek, an amateur, single-celled criminal. Bush and Cheney are highly evolved, over-confident and ruthless global predators.

Carrying the comparison to its logical conclusion is inevitable, with impeachment being the obvious antidote to both infectious “Presidencies.” Regarding the Bush/Cheney crimes, includinging the lying betrayal of the American people (and particularly of the armed forces), subversion of the Constitution, and disregard for the international Rule of Law, then immediate criminal prosecutions for abuse of power and treason are essential to the security of our nation.

Terrorism is the inevitable result of our rogue nation's murderous misbehavior. Bush has proven that armed aggression is the response of being attacked, but people here forget that the U.S has been killing people in the the Gulf Region for years before 9/11. What did Americans think would happen after our invasions into the politics of that region, motivated by the lust for oil?

For Bush to be merely voted out of office would be an insult to the integrity of our system of government and the people of the world. Allowing Bush and Cheney to exit the White House with dignity is far too lenient and disingenuous an end for a criminal regime.

Bill Clinton lied, stupidly, about his affair and was dragged through the impeachment process. Bush and Cheney have waged sordid war-for-profit, subverted civil liberties and robbed from the poor to give to the rich. What the hell else do they have to do to warrant legal action?

What about spraying poison into the eyes of children, in Colombia, while spreading biological agents? What about casually dispersing radioactivity in the form of depleted uranium? What about perpetuating a drug war that’s been proven to be counter-productive to control of drugs, and a boon to the black market? What about attacking the "self-evident" right of people to choose whom they want to love? What about the selling of the environment of this planet to corporations, then putting the cost of clean-up on the taxpayers?

Nixon was impeached to regain credibility for the office he dishonored. Bush and Cheney must be prosecuted for the United States to regain the respect of the world and begin the process of building a lasting peace.
